LEGO Indiana Jones
Multi Review: Indy's enduring charm helps cover some of the game's more basic flaws.

God of War: Chains of Olympus
PSP Review: Short but sweet, this violent action game has done well on the handheld.

FlatOut Head On
PSP Review: What is essentially another belated port still makes for a welcome addition to the PSP.

King of Clubs
PSP Review: This low- budget mini golf simulator falls decidedly below par.

Patapon
PSP Review: Quirky, addictive and totally unique; Sony scores a success on its rather unfocused handheld.

Dragoneer's Aria
PSP Review: This lacklustre JRPG fails to live up to even basic expectations of the genre.

How to save the PSP part 1: Turn it into a phone
DS? What's one of those?

So, what do you do when your handheld has only sold around 36 million units worldwide, while your rival has sold around 75 million units? Change strategy, and take on Apple. It's not like Apple is a successful company or anything, is it?

Does that sound like a wise strategy to you? Either way, EETimes reports that a couple of new Sony patents suggest touchscreen technology in some form is on its way to the PSP.

While this is far from any kind of confirmation, it could be that Sony is looking to target potential iPhone customers with some kind of revised PSP model, or maybe even a PSP2 - if such a thing exists.

With developers and publishers alike vocally criticising Sony for its lack of direction with the PSP, some sort of clarity as to just who the Japanese giant wants to buy the handheld may well be welcomed, but taking on one of the world's most successful gadgets of recent times probably won't.

EA beats its chest and sounds the alarm: FIFA 09 will be pretty good
Were you expecting anything else?

So, Euro 2008 is over, with the mighty Spain crowned champions. Apart from those suffering a hangover in Madrid and the surrounding area, the rest of us are already itching for our league teams to get back in action.

A new season naturally means a new FIFA from the house that EA built, with the publisher promising "over 250 feature changes and additions focused on improving core gameplay."

I'd love it if they said that all they were going to change was the box-art, but that couldn't be further from the truth, apparently.

EA is promising that gamers will be able to "go inside the game engine" to change the way their team reacts in any given situation, as well as expanding the Be A Pro mode that allows players to take control of just one player on the pitch.

I'm personally banking on EA shoving in 'more realistic diving' and 'realtime stubble animation', but don't quote me on that.

Monster Hunter fans show a bit of ‘community spirit’
No-speaky-English?

There are some things that warm my heart. Small puppies. The Children in Need totaliser at the end of the night. S Club 7 videos. Oh, and Monster Hunter fans.

Yes, rather than firing off angry letters to Capcom’s HQ about the publisher’s decision not to release a North American or European version of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G on PSP, a group of enthusiasts have decided to put down their poisoned pens and set about translating the game into English all by themselves.

Put together in less than three months and nearing completion as we speak, the bods over at Teamhgg.org have also made sure gamers will be able to play their legally imported copies of 2G by including a file converter in the package, meaning that the bigwigs at Capcom and Sony won’t have to worry about the site endorsing piracy come the translator’s release.

Now, if I were Capcom, I’d be offering these dedicated fans a job. Or at least a Monster Hunter themed pencil case.

PS3 enjoys chart-topping week in Japan
PSP also selling strongly

Boosted by the release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Sony's PlayStation 3 shot to the top of Japan's hardware chart last week, according to sales monitor Media Create.

75,311 PS3s were sold across the week - a significant increase on the usual figure for the console, which is somewhere between 10,000-12,000 units a week.

Indeed, strong PSP sales also helped Sony secure the second spot in the rundown, with 64,675 units having been sold last week. Nintendo's Wii and DS could only manage the #3 and #4 spots respectively, in what is - unless we're mistaken - the first week the PS3 has enjoyed at the top of the chart since launch.

However, total sales still give the Wii a comfortable lead over the PS3, with Nintendo having shifted 6.23 million since launch compared to the PS3's 2.15 million.

Piracy actually boosts PSP sales, admits Sony
'But we still don't like it', says Reeves

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president David Reeves has admitted that rampant PSP piracy has actually helped the hardware giant shift units worldwide, reports trade magazine MCV.

Reeves stated that the availability of pirate PSP titles has resulted in more people purchasing the system.

"There is a piracy problem on PSP. We know about it, we know how it’s done," Reeves told the magazine.

It sometimes fuels the growth of hardware sales, but on balance we are not happy about it.”

Every cloud, eh David?
